Cette peinture est basée sur une vieille photo de ma mère et de son frère lorsqu'ils étaient enfants. Probablement prise par l'un de leurs parents, la photo est lumineuse et floue, comme un souvenir. En la peignant, j'ai voulu comprendre qui était ma mère avant de la connaître. En tant qu'enfant, ma vision d'elle est façonnée par ce rôle. Mais à travers cette image, j'entrevois une autre facette - joyeuse, enjouée, entière. Cette œuvre fait partie d'une série de deux pièces qui explore la façon dont les photos de famille peuvent révéler des éléments d'une personne qui sont généralement cachés à la génération suivante.

This painting is based on an old photo of my mother and her brother as children. Likely taken by one of their parents, the photo is bright and blurry, like a memory. In painting it, I wanted to understand who my mother was before I knew her. As her child, my view of her is shaped by that role. But through this image, I glimpse another side—joyful, playful, whole. This work is part of a two-piece series that explores how family photos can reveal pieces of a person that are usually hidden from the next generation.

My daughter stands behind me, looking out the window—curious, yet still under my protection. A third figure, a male nude, leaps from a painting on the wall. This shift in gaze and subject disrupts the traditional narrative and reclaims the power.
